Local Walking and Cycling Routes
Walking and cycling is a great way to keep active and healthy. By swapping your short car journeys with walking or cycling, it is an easy way to build exercise into your day.
- Research shows adults who cycle regularly have fitness levels of someone up to 10 years younger.
- Keeping physically active can reduce the risk of heart and circulatory disease by as much as 35% and risk of early death by as much as 30%.
- Physical activity isn’t a guarantee against all disease, but it has been shown to greatly reduce the chances of several serious illnesses.
- Walking and cycling is great way to stay healthy both mentally and physically.
In addition, it helps protect the environment, including:
- Reducing air pollution by reducing the number of cars on the roads
- Reducing unwanted sounds / noise pollution which not only improves health and wellbeing but also wildlife.

Able to visit and work on site at either your home or place of work it provides a great opportunity to get you back on the road. School Travel
Hatch Ride Primary School
Joining onto Old Wokingham Road cross to the western side using either the signalised controlled crossing or the crossing point to the south of Hatch Ride. Using the footways on either side of Hatch Ride continue west until the you reach Hatch Ride Primary School, where there is a zebra crossing available if required.
Oaklands Infant and Junior School
From Old Wokingham Road, opposite the main entrance (Buckler Ride), cross the road to travel west behind Old Wokingham Road to connect to Maple Drive. Whilst no footways are available for the first section for Marple Drive, it is a quiet residential area. An alternative route is available via Rowan Drive. Travel west along Belmont Road using the footways on either side connecting to Everest Road / Greenwood Road. At the junction of Butler Road travel south to access both schools.
Crowthorne CofE Primary School
Travel south along Old Wokingham Road using the connection along the development frontage which then joins the shared footway or cycleway. At the roundabout to the south, cross using the crossing available and continue west along Bracknell Road towards Crowthorne High Street. Using the footway on the northern side continue until you reach the school on Duke’s Ride.
Wooden Hill Primary School
From Nine Mile Ride, travel east using the footway on the northern side. Before the junction of Foresters Road turn left onto the shared footway cycleway and join Wooden Hill. Please note there is no footway for approximately 85m but it is located within a quiet residential area. Continue north connecting to Staplehurst where the school is located.
Easthampstead Park Community School
From Nine Mile Ride, travel east using the footway on the northern side. Before the junction of Foresters Road turn left onto the shared footway cycleway and join Wooden Hill. Please note there is no footway for approximately 85m but it is located within a quiet residential area. Continue north connecting to Staplehurst where there are number of footpaths connecting north to Turnberry. The route continues north along the boundary of Downshire Golf Complex leading to the school.
An alternative route is also available along South Road (off Nine Mile Ride) but does have large sections of footway missing, albeit it is a quiet route towards Downshire Golf Complex and therefore is suitable for cycling.
Edgbarrow School
Travel south along Old Wokingham Road using the connection along the development frontage which then joins the shared footway or cycleway. At the roundabout to the south, cross using the crossing available and continue west along Bracknell Road towards Crowthorne High Street. At the High Street travel south until the junction of either Lower Boardmoor Road or Pinehill Road. Continue until the junction of Grant Road and continue south towards to the school.
